With acknowledgment of climate change and its impact on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Order No. 594, Leading By Example: Decarbonizing and Minimizing Environmental Impacts of State Government, was signed by Governor Baker on April 22, 2021. Executive Order 594 is focused on energy (use, renewables, storage), resiliency, materials, water, landscape, and waste and applies to all executive branch agencies. This presentation will provide an overview of the order’s requirements and a case study of an MBTA project where EO594 is applied to both the building and the site.
