Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have rapidly become a focal point for water suppliers nationally. This presentation will provide a background of PFAS, discuss the current state of regulatory environment and treatment practice. Cases studies will be presented on water systems that have comprehensively addressed PFAS contamination in the groundwater source to find the appropriate treatment solution. The presentation will review the steps taken from discovery of PFAS, bench-scale studies to evaluate granular activated carbon and ion exchange, and design of the PFAS treatment facilities.
