Engineers Without Borders- Boston Professional Chapter (EWB-BPC) has been working on community development projects in Tanzania since 2012. Tanzania Program Manager, Barbara Piper, and Chamhawi Water Supply Project Lead, Mike Stover, will discuss EWB-BPC's water supply, school building, sanitation and energy projects.

Tanzania Program Manager, Barbara Piper: On her first visit to Tanzania in 2015, Barbara immediately fell in love with the beautiful country and its people and is fully committed to EWB Boston Professional Chapter's projects within the communities of Mapinduzi, Mkutani and Chamhawi in the central region of Dodoma. She has a background in international business and finance and has been involved in a number of start-ups in the UK and US. She also has extensive R&D and Product Development experience in the medical device/pharmaceutical and electronics industries. Her academic credentials include a BS and MS in Polymer Science & Engineering with a specialization in biomedical applications of polymers and a MBA with a specialization in the Management of Technology and Innovation. She enjoys being outdoors (bicycling, hiking, kayaking and sailing) and traveling to all corners of the world.  

Tanzania Team Lead, Mike Stover: Mike Stover graduated from the University of Delaware in 1989 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, and from Cornell University in 1993 with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering. Mike is a licensed Professional Engineer and has served in the US Public Health Service since 1993. He has worked with Native American communities across the nation with the design and construction of water and sanitation projects. Mike is currently detailed to the US Environmental Protection Agency in Boston as the Tribal Program Manager. Mike has been involved with Engineers Without Borders since 2005, and is currently the team lead for the Chamhawi, Tanzania drinking water project.
