On Tuesday, May 14, 2013, ACEC/MA, BSCES, and MALSCE members gathered at the Massachusetts State House for our Annual Engineers and Land Surveyors Day at the State House along with leaders from other engineering and design-related associations.  These organizations co-sponsored the day:
 

• American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA)
• Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section/ASCE (BSCES)
• Massachusetts Association of Land Surveyors and Civil Engineers (MALSCE)

And several other groups
We arrange for meetings with our members’ Massachusetts State Representatives and State Senators based on where our members live and vote.

to confirm the names of their State Senator and State Representative, based on where they live/vote.

We arrange for meetings with our members’ Massachusetts State Representatives and State Senators based on where our members live and vote. 

We set up meetings for you with your legislators.  Or, if you are new to the event and want to partner with others who have done this before, we’ll pair you up with engineers and land surveyors and you’ll join them for their legislative appointments.

We hold advance issue briefing sessions to help you prepare to discuss the issues.  You can participate in an issue briefing session at The Engineering Center or by conference call.

Particants discussed the issues & plan how to get the most from your meetings before Engineers and Land Surveyors Day  at the State House being held on May 14, 2013.  Join us for one of three, free, optional Issues Briefing Sessions at TEC, One Walnut Street, Boston on:

Wednesday, May 1, 10:00 - 11:00 AM (call-in and in person) at The Engineering Center in Boston
Thursday, May 9,  2:30 - 3:30 PM(call-in and in person) at The Engineering Center in Boston
Friday, May 10, 10:30 - 11:30 AM (call-in and in person) at The Engineering Center in Boston

Lobbying in Massachusetts:
Recent changes in the lobbying laws over the past few years have the effect of sweeping some activities into the category of "lobbying" which previously may not have been considered lobbying.   As long as you are participating in Design Professionals Day as a representative of at least one of our associations, discussing the issues set for the day, you do not have to register as a lobbyist.

An important part of our Advocacy efforts is Engineers and Land Surveyors Day; the one day each year when we as a profession gather in force at the State House and present our industry's viewpoints in person to our local legislators. It is a chance for each of us to meet with your State Representative and State Senator to discuss issues pertinent to our industry, to you as an individual professional, and to you as a citizen. We coordinate this event annually to promote communications with our state legislators, arranging appointments, providing briefing sheets on key issues for ACEC/MA, BSCES and MALSCE members to utilize, and establishing teams of local residents to meet with their actual legislators.
